It is so good to be HERE! I suspect that like me, one is never without some doubt if one is where God has called one to be. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine myself serving two wonderful congregations in the state of Missouri, let alone FOUR of them! Two in the Kansas City area, and now two south of the city.
To give you a bit of background on my journey. I was raised on a farm in a very tiny town of Wolbach, Nebraska, Lutheran to the core! When I was a second semester sophomore in High School, in order for my Dad to attend Midland Lutheran College, Central and Luther Seminary, we moved to Fremont, NE. I tell you this long-ago history because after 20 years of successful farming, and my Mother’s untimely death at 38, my Dad went into the ministry. It all affected the warp and weave of my life.
David Newman, my husband of 14 years, was pastor at Prince of Peace in Grandview, MO for five years. We have one daughter, Sharon. Herb Kleensang, my second husband of 23 years supported me through my years serving Midland Lutheran College in several roles, including VP for Student Development (requiring a doctorate in Education Administration). With early retirement from Midland, I entered into the TEEM program. (Theological Education for Emerging Ministry, with specialty in Rural Ministry, ELCA). Herb passed during my first year in ministry.
I had the joy of serving 3 congregations in Nebraska simultaneously while studying at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, CA and was ordained 5/12/2005. One congregation closed, and eventually, 5 congregations joined into a parish. At my colleague’s retirement I continued to serve the five with assistance from a PMA, multiple chaplains, and area retired pastors, until my retirement, 2019.
My husband of 2 ½ years, Paul Bookmeyer, and his family, were longtime friends and colleagues. Paul’s darling wife. Sandy, passed 2018. Paul and I became reacquainted while purchasing monuments for our respective spouses in Fremont, NE. Against my better judgement. I will say, perhaps we’ve discovered a new dating site! Of course, I moved to Missouri, again.
THEN came the great joy of serving as part time supply pastor for Blue Ridge Trinity in Raytown and Lord of Love in Belton, MO. And, I gained an additional gift of getting to mentor and now supervise an internship for another TEEM candidate for ministry, Ms. Vicki Hedger at Lord of Love in Belton. NOW I have the great joy of serving you at St. Matthew’s in Butler and St. Paul’s in Nevada! It is amazing how God gives us gifts of service and draws us to where it seems we are supposed to be!
More? I enjoy card making, cats, dogs, horses, love my family including cousins – like crazy, my daughter, Paul’s 2 sons, 6 grands, all spouses, 5 great-grands, and enjoy travel, cooking, yard work (unless it’s hot), movies, terrible westerns, documentaries, reading novels, history, archeology, theology, genealogy, and anything Scots/Irish or Scandinavian, most art, Kiwanis, and the DAR.
If you need to contact me: 402-720-2563 call or text, email at pastormcintyre@aol.com or write Pr. Nicki J. McIntyre, 4320 SW Sapelo Ct., Lees Summit, MO 64082.
I try to be in-office Thursdays – a.m. @ St. Matthew – p.m. @ St. Paul, subject to change depending on what’s going on that week.
Respectfully, and thriving in God’s amazing grace!
Pastor Nicki
